Mustangs Head Coach - Kelly Mead
Mustangs Head Coach, Kelly Mead, graduated from Huffman Hargrave High School where he was a three sport all district athlete in high school. After high school, Coach Mead went on to East Texas Baptist University to earn his Bachelors of Science in Education along with lettering 4 years with the Tiger Baseball Team. Upon graduation, Coach Mead went back to his alma mater, Huffman Hargrave, to begin his coaching career and have the opportunity to coach his younger brother, Kyle. Coach Mead spent 5 years in Huffman before making the short transfer to Kingwood High School. In 2003, Coach Mead joined the KHS coaching staff for both football and baseball. Coach Mead was an integral part of the coaching staff for the 5A 2004 final-4 and 2005 State Champion Kingwood Mustangs. Coach Mead is beginning his 5th year with the Mustangs and his first as the Head Coach. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Mead teaches Geometry and enjoys spending time with his wife Kali, and family. In his spare time, he enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities.

Varsity Assistant Coach -
Mark Schrutka
Coach Schrutka is back coaching at his alma mater where he graduated in 1997. Coach Schrutka lettered two years in baseball and football and was a member of the ’96 team that advanced to the Regional Finals. After high school, Coach Schrutka attended Texas A&M University. Coach Schrutka also coaches football and teaches Algebra II at Kingwood. In his spare time, Coach Schrutka enjoys spending time with his wife, Stacie, as well as friends and family.
JV Head Coach -
Jared Burt
Coach Burt is in his second year at Kingwood High School. He currently teaches Health and coach’s football and baseball. Prior to coming to KHS, Coach Burt spent 8 years in Huffman ISD where he coached football, baseball, track, basketball and spent 1 season as the head softball coach. After leaving Huffman, Coach Burt spent 2 year at Creekwood Middle School where he coached football and track.
Coach Burt is married to wife Kara
and they have two children; Alyssa (7) and Bryce (3). As a family they
are all very involved at church and enjoy doing things outside and of
course going to ballgames. Coach Burt is a graduate of McNeese State
University and has a degree in Health and Human Performance with a minor
in Biology. He attended Sulphur High School in Louisiana where he
played football and baseball.
Sophomore Head Coach -
Dennis Whitmer
Coach Dennis Whitmer is in his 14th year of coaching and teaching. Before coming to Kingwood four years ago, his was previously at Nacogdoches, Carthage and Whitehouse. He is a 1986 graduate of Kingwood High School who lettered two years in baseball and football. Coach Whitmer went on to play baseball at San Jacinto College for two years and at Stephen F. Austin State University for one year. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1992. Away from work, he spends his spare time with his fiancée, Donna Tomz (Foret), also a former KHS graduate, and their children Will, 12, Jack, 10, Carson, 8, Kate, 8, and Parker, 5. Golfing, running, and weight lifting are some of his favorite activities.
