Klein
ISD Tournament February 28-
KHS vs.
Klein Oak Non-District Game
Raney, Tittle, McGinnis spark offense, Oros does job on the mound in
4-2 victory.
In a game where all the scoring was done after 2 ½ innings,
Kingwood wins its 1st game of the Klein ISD tournament by beating the Klein Oak
Panthers 4-2. Senior Michael Oros
started for the Mustangs and after giving up 2 quick runs in the bottom of the
1st, held the Panthers scoreless over the next five innings to earn
the win. Oros scattered five hits while
striking out seven and walking four. In
the 7th, Junior Taylor Taska came on in
the closer’s role for the Mustangs and earned the save.
The Mustangs went to work quickly in the 1st inning
getting two runs on two hits. Jordan
Raney led off with a one base shot to right and then moved to second when Cory
Frankum worked a walk. David Tittle
followed and hit a single deep into the hole.
A throwing error on the play allowed Raney to score and Frankum to
advance to third. Conor
McGinnis then drove in Frankum with a ground out to first.
Klein Oak pushed their first 2 batters across the plate to tie it
up in the bottom half of the 1st and it looked like the Mustangs
might be in for a fight, but Oros and company went to work and shut the
Panthers out for the rest of the game.
The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 6th
but Dale Brown ended the inning and the Panthers’ hopes with a nice catch in
left.
Kingwood added the go ahead, and winning, run in the top of the 2nd. Taska led off and
reached on an error. Taska
advanced to second on a failed pick off attempt and then Brett Stilwell moved
him to third with a sac bunt. Raney
plated Taska with a sharp single to left for the
winning run.
In the 3rd inning, David Tittle put an insurance run on
the board with a lead off homer over the fence in left center. McGinnis then spanked a single to center but
was eliminated by an inning ending double play.
Kingwood loaded the bases in the top of the 7th but an
inning ending double play kept the Mustangs from scoring. Dale Brown led off with a single and moved to
third when his drive to center went through the fielder. Matt Brown joined him when he was
intentionally walked and then Raney loaded the bases after working a walk.
Contributing to the Mustang offense were David
Tittle (2/3, HR, RBI SB), Jordan Raney (2/3, BB, 2RBI), Conor
McGinnis (1/3, RBI), Ryan Grundy (1/3), and Dale Brown (1/1).
