“Mustangs rout PA Memorial 10-0”

The Mustangs scored two runs in the second and eight more in the fourth to rout visiting Port Arthur Memorial 10 to 0 Tuesday night at Andy Wells Field in a game that was shorten to 4 ˝ innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Kingwood scored their first two runs in the second when Designated Hitter Geoff Perrott led off by getting hit by a pitch and stole second and advanced to third when Mike Pierce reached on an error. Chris Churchwell (2-3 3RBI’s) drove in both runners with a single to right centerfield.

The Mustangs put the game out of reach in the fourth by sending 13 hitters to the plate to score eight runs. The offensive outburst was led by Brad Evans, Matt Brown and Chris Churchwell. Both Evans and Brown hit two run home runs and Churchwell continued his hot hitting with a triple.

Starting pitcher Chris Churchwell faced only 12 hitters in his four innings of work by yielding two hits, walking two and striking out three to record the win. Churchwell helped himself by picking-off all four hitters that reached first base. Mike Pierce pitched the fifth and final inning by striking out two of the four hitters he faced.

The Mustangs are now 12-5 (2-1 District 21-5A) and return to action this Friday night on the road against cross town rival Humble at 6:30PM.
