The Kingwood bats came alive in game one of The Woodlands College Park Tournament on Thursday night by defeating Bryan by the score of 11-0 in 6-innings in game that was shorten because of the 10-run rule.
The Mustangs started fast by scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Clint Stover led off the game by reaching on an error, Jordan Brewster and David Tittle followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Mike Pierce grounded into a double play scoring the first Mustang run and Matt Scaramuzzi (3-4 with 2 RBI’s and a double) then singled to score Jordan Brewster. After Brad Evans was hit by a pitch, Jordan Raney singled driving in Matt Scaramuzzi from second.
The Mustangs extended their lead to 10 to 1 in the 5th inning by scoring 4 more runs. Matt Scaramuzzi led off with a double to left centerfield and moved to 3rd on a passed ball; Brad Evans reached on a 3 base error that scored Scaramuzzi. Jordan Raney then walked to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Pinch hitter Connor McGinnis then hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield that scored Evans. Senior Rocky Prestifillipo then hit a pinch hit 2-run homerun to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore left-hander Garrett Doyle made his Kingwood Varsity debut by throwing the 6th and final inning by retiring all three hitters he faced in order.
