Kingwood @ Bryan (The Woodlands College Park Tournament)

The Kingwood bats came alive in game one of The Woodlands College Park Tournament on Thursday night by defeating Bryan by the score of 11-0 in 6-innings in game that was shorten because of the 10-run rule.

The Mustangs started fast by scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Clint Stover led off the game by reaching on an error, Jordan Brewster and David Tittle followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Mike Pierce grounded into a double play scoring the first Mustang run and Matt Scaramuzzi (3-4 with 2 RBI’s and a double) then singled to score Jordan Brewster. After Brad Evans was hit by a pitch, Jordan Raney singled driving in Matt Scaramuzzi from second.

Bryan answered with one run in the bottom of the first, but that’s all the Vikings would score off of Senior right-hander Tommy Richardson who went 5 innings for the win, giving up only 1 run while scattering 4 hits on the night.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 10 to 1 in the 5th inning by scoring 4 more runs. Matt Scaramuzzi led off with a double to left centerfield and moved to 3rd on a passed ball; Brad Evans reached on a 3 base error that scored Scaramuzzi. Jordan Raney then walked to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Pinch hitter Connor McGinnis then hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield that scored Evans. Senior Rocky Prestifillipo then hit a pinch hit 2-run homerun to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore left-hander Garrett Doyle made his Kingwood Varsity debut by throwing the 6th and final inning by retiring all three hitters he faced in order.
