Kingwood vs Humble

June 2, 2005

In the opening game of the series the bats were alive and pitcher Austin Wood kept the Wildcats at bay as the Mustangs came away with a 13-2 win.  The Mustangs wasted no time as they scored four times in the top of the first.  With one out Josh Fountain singled.  After the second out Kenneth Negron tripled driving in the first run of the game.  Austin Wood walked and Brennan Oliver entered as a courtesy runner.  A.J. Pendleton drove in two runs with a double and John Seitz singled giving the Mustangs a 4-0 lead after a half inning of play.  Kingwood added one more in the second as Johnny Whittleman walked leading off the inning and stole second.  With two outs Negron singled driving in the Mustangs fifth run of the evening.  A four run third put the Mustangs in total control.  With one out, four consecutive walks to Seitz, McCormick, Denney and Whittleman gave the Mustangs one run.  A Fountain single brought in one more and Doug Simmons singled bringing home two more putting Kingwood up 9-0 after three.  That would be all the scoring until the seventh when four more Mustangs crossed home plate.  Seitz singled leading off.  McCormick doubled and Kyle Denney singled to bring home the first run of the inning.  One out later Fountain singled driving in run number two.  A sac fly from Simmons brought home Denney.  Negron singled and Wood singled driving home the final run of the evening for the Mustangs in the 13-2 win.  The Mustangs rapped out fifteen hits on the night coming from Fountain(3-5) Negron(3-5) McCormick(3-3) Seitz(2-2) Denney(1-3) Wood(1-3) Simmons(1-4 and Pendleton(1-5).  The only two runs Kingwood starter Austin Wood allowed came after the game was well out of reach as the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh as he picked up the complete game win.  Wood allowed two runs on five hits, didn’t walk a hitter and had six strikeouts.
