Kingwood vs Deer Park
May 12, 2005
In the first game of the Area round of the playoffs,
Kingwood faced Deer Park. The Mustangs scored twice in the bottom of
the first for the only runs they would need as they defeated the Deer 4-1 to
take a 1-0 lead in the series. In the
bottom of the first Johnny Whittleman took the second pitch of the game over
the right field fence. Kenneth Negron
followed with a double, stole third and scored on a Jacob Edwards ground
ball. The Mustangs went up 3-0 in the
bottom of the second. A.J. Pendleton
walked leading off and was moved to second on a sac bunt from Austin Wood. Kyle Denney doubled to left driving in Negron
for the 3-0 lead after two. Deer Park got their only
run of the game on two bunt hits, a catcher’s interference call and a ground
ball out. The two bunt hits would be the
only Deer hits on the evening as Kingwood starter Austin Wood kept the Deer in
check on this evening. Kingwoods final
run came in the first when Josh Fountain walked and stole second. Whittleman walked and Negron sent a fly ball
to deep center. Fountain tagged and went
to third on the play and continued home as Deer Park misplayed the relay throw. Kingwood had only four hits on the evening
but they came at the right time.
Whittleman(1-1, HR) Negron(1-3) Pendleton(1-2) and Denney(1-2) had the
Mustang hits. Austin Wood started and
went the distance for the Mustangs. Wood
allowed only the two bunt singles, walked two and struck out seven for his
tenth win of the year.
