The Mustangs erupted for their largest run and hit output of the year on Monday as they defeated Port Arthur 19-8.  Port Arthur got the ball rolling by scoring four in the top of the first.  Kingwood regrouped to score four of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Johnny Whittleman led off and reached on an error.  A fielder’s choice ground ball forced Whittleman with Thomas McCormick reaching first.  After the second out, Austin Wood walked and A.J. Pendleton was hit by a pitch loading the bases.  A triple from Kenneth Negron cleared the bases and John Seitz doubled driving home the fourth run of the inning.  Port Arthur responded in the top of the second adding four more to go up 8-4.  The Mustangs got half of those back in the bottom of the inning.  With one down, Whittleman walked.  After the second out Doug Simmons singled and Whittleman came around to score on a throwing error.  Wood followed with a double driving home Simmons making the score 8-6 in favor of Port Arthur after two full innings.  The Mustangs took the lead for good in the bottom of the third.  Negron led off with a single and stole second and moved to third on a fly ball to center from John Seitz and then scored on a sac fly off the bat of Josh Fountain.  Kyle Denney followed with a single.  Whittleman doubled and both runners scored on a McCormick single giving the Mustangs a 9-8 lead after three.  Kingwood put the game away in the bottom of the fourth.  Wood walked leading off.  Brian Smith was the courtesy runner for the pitcher.  Pendleton was hit by a pitch and Negron reached on an error loading the bases.  Matt McDonough walked bringing in Smith with the first run of the inning.  Fountain followed with his second sac fly of the evening driving in the second run of the inning and eleventh of the night for the Mustangs.  Jacob Edwards entered as a pinch hitter and doubled down the left field line brining in another run.  Whittleman followed with a single driving in two more.  McCormick singled and Simmons tripled driving in two more Mustangs.  A ground ball from Wood scored yet another run.  A.J. Pendleton then lined a pitch over the left field fence for a home run for the ninth run of the inning.  But the Mustangs weren’t quite finished.  Negron singled and McDonough doubled driving home the final Mustang run of the night in the 19-8 win.  Ryan Torres started but was relieved by Blake Steil in the first.  Steil pitched through the second.  Austin Wood relieved starting the third and pitched three scoreless innings to get the win.  Wood didn’t allow a runner in his three innings and recorded seven strikeouts.  Kingwoods fifteen hits on the evening came from Negron(3-4) Whittleman(2-3) McCormick(2-4) Simmons(2-4) Edwards(1-1) Denney(1-2) Pendleton(1-2, HR) Seitz(1-2) McDonough(1-1) and Wood(1-2).
