Kingwood vs Westfield

The Mustangs improved to 3-0 in District play on Tuesday as they won a pitchers duel with the Westfield Mustangs 2-0.  Austin Wood got his fifth win of the season allowing only an infield single in his seven innings of work.  He walked three and had twelve strikeouts on the evening.  The Mustangs got the only run they needed in the bottom of the third when Johnny Whittleman homered to dead center field for his sixth of the year.  Kingwood did push across an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  With one out catcher John Seitz walked.  Bruce Williams entered the game to run for Seitz.  Williams stole second and moved to third on a Brad Evans ground ball.  With a one ball one strike count on Josh Fountain, Williams broke for home.  When the pitch sailed outside Williams slid in safely giving the Mustangs the final margin of victory 2-0.  Several fine defensive plays were made by first baseman Chris Churchwell to help keep Westfield runners from reaching base.  Whittleman(1-2, HR) Doug Simmons(1-3) and Kyle Denney(1-3) had the only Kingwood base knocks for the evening.
