Kingwood vs
Klein
Mar 7, 2005
The Mustangs finished a busy week on Tuesday evening with a
rematch with the Klein Bearcats. Kingwood scored first with a run in the
bottom of the second. Kyle Denney walked with one out and moved to second
after Brad Evans was hit by a pitch. On a steal of third Denney just kept
running on a ground ball to deep second from Josh Fountain to score the first
run of the game. Klein answered back with three home runs in the top of
the third to go up 4-1. The Mustangs got one back in the bottom of the
inning on a Johnny Whittleman home run. Two more Klein runs gave the
Bearcats a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Mustangs
had a huge half of the inning sending fourteen hitters to the plate to score eleven big runs. In the
inning, Kenneth Negron led off with a single. Thomas McCormick doubled
driving in the first run. Whittleman walked and was forced at second on a
ground ball from A.J. Pendleton with McCormick moving to third and scoring on a
wild pitch. Austin Wood followed with a single and Doug Simmons walked
loading the bases. With two out, the Klein pitcher would boot a ground
ball allowing Pendleton and pinch runner Bruce Williams to score as Brad Evans
reached first. Josh Fountain and Negron walked to once again load the
bases. McCormick doubled to deep left center to bring home all three
runners. But the Mustangs weren’t through. Whittleman singled
bringing in McCormick. Pendleton singled
and both runners moved up a base on a passed ball. Wood followed with an
infield single that allowed both runners to score giving Kingwood the final
runs in the 13-6 win. Blake Steil pitched the first five innings for the
Mustangs allowing six runs on four hits, walked three and struck out five to
get the win. Mike Ojala and Zack Enriquez each pitched a scoreless inning
to preserve the Mustang win. Negron(2-3), McCormick(2-4), Whittleman(2-2,
HR), Pendleton(1-3) and Wood(3-4) had the Mustang ten hits on the evening.
