Kingwood vs Hannan, La

In game two of the tournament Kingwood took on visiting Hannan Louisiana.  Kingwood scored early and often but had to hold on for an 11-10 win.  Hannan opened the scoring in the top if of the first with a run.  Kingwood answered in the bottom of the inning with two of their own.  With one out, Josh Fountain and Johnny Whittleman walked.  Fountain scored on a Thomas McCormick double and Whittleman crossed the plate on a ground ball to short from Doug Simmons.  Hannan tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the second and took a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the third.  The Mustangs broke loose with six runs in their half of the third.  With one out in the inning, Fountain singled and Whittleman walked.  With two outs, Simmons doubled to drive home the first two runs of the inning.  Simmons moved to third on a wild pitch and Austin Pendleton walked and stole second.  Jacob Edwards walked to lead the bases.  Austin Wood was hit by a pitch to force home run number three of the inning.  Entering the game as a pinch hitter, Michael Cvejanovich doubled to right center to clear the bases and give the Mustangs an 8-3 lead.  Hannan scored two more in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-5.  The Mustangs would score three of their own in the bottom of the fifth to go back up 11-5.  Edwards led the inning off with a single.  With one out Matt McDonough walked.  Negron reached on an error to load the bases.  Fountain drove home the first run with a sac fly with all runners moving up a base.  McDonough would score on a bad throw and the final runner would score following walks to Whittleman, McCormick and Simmons.  Kingwood would then have to hold on for dear life as Hannan scored five times in the top of the sixth.  The tying run was on first when Kingwood got the final out of the inning the end the game.  Chris Churchwell was the winning pitcher.  He went five and two thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits, walking seven and recording give strikeouts.  Blake Steil made his first appearance of the year going one and one third innings, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks.  The Mustangs had only five hits but were helped along with nine walks and a hit batter.  Fountain(1-2), McCormick(1-2), Simmons(1-3), Edwards(1-2 and Cvejanovich(1-1) had the Kingwood hits in the game.
