Kingwood's Sophomore baseball Coach Kelly
Mead led his team to the District 22-5A championship with an 18
to 9 victory over Humble. Derek Draeger hit his
fourth homerun of the season while driving in 4 runs in a 2 for 3 night that included a double and a base on
balls. Facing an umpire with a tight and changing strikezone, Kingwood used 11 walks, 6 hits and 6 Humble fielding errors to score the 18 runs. Conor McGinnis and David Tittle each
had a double and one RBI and Travis Crane and Ryan Grundy singled. Eric
Stover scored 4 times with 3 bases on balls. Jordan Raney added 4
RBI's on 2 ground balls and a bases loaded walk. Austin Ebow had 2 RBI's on a sacrifice fly to right field and a
ground ball. Corey Grillet started the game on
the mound giving up 5 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and one strikeout.
Coming in the game in relief in the third inning, Travis Crane got the win
pitching 1-2/3 innings. Crane gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks
and 2 strikeouts. Closer Michael Oros entered
to pitch the 5th and final inning, striking out 2 and yielding only
one hit.
