Aldine ISD Tournament

The sophomore baseball team continued its winning ways to capture the first place trophy in the Aldine tournament this past weekend.    In the championship game, Kingwood defeated Klein Forest 14 to 2 as Corey Grillet pitched the complete 5 inning game giving up only two runs and striking out 8 batters. Catcher Johnny Dugas led the team with a two for two night, garnering two RBI’s.  David Tittle added two hits and one RBI.  Others contributing hits in the game include a double by Eric Stover and singles by Brett Morte, Taylor Netek, Chris Brown and Brett Brown. 

 

To reach the championship game, Kingwood defeated The Woodlands 9 to 3.  Conor McGinnis was the winning pitcher throwing 5 innings and striking out two.  McGinnis gave up 2 first inning runs before settling down to shut out The Woodlands the next four innings.  Closing pitcher Travis Crane entered in the 6th inning to end the game.  Crane allowed one run while inducing three infield ground outs to preserve the 9 to 3 victory.  At the plate, leadoff batter Corey Frankum was 3 for 3, scoring 2 runs.  In the fourth inning, Kingwood took the lead when Eric Stover successfully completed a squeeze bunt scoring Ryan Grundy.  David Tittle added a two RBI double while Austin Ebow and Derek Draeger each added one run RBI doubles.

 

In the first game of the tournament Kingwood overpowered Eisenhower in a 26 to 0 game as the team had its second 20 hit game of the season.  The game was highlighted by a homerun and double by Matt Brown.  Those with two hits included Nick Purcell, Eric Stover, Brett Morte, Jordan Raney, Chris Brown, and Matt Brown.  Those with one hit includes a triple by Derek Draeger, a double by Austin Ebow and singles by Johnny Dugas, Conor McGinnis, Michael Oros, Ryan Grundy, Brett  Brown, Austin Evitts and Coley Taylor.  Pitchers Michael Oros and Chris Brown  combined for a shutout with Michael Oros pitching 2 innings, striking out four and Chris Brown pitching three innings striking out three.  The sophomore team now has 5 wins and 0 losses.
