Kingwood Versus Katy
On
Kingwood got on the
scoreboard in the 1st inning as centerfielder Kenneth Negron laced a
double into the left field corner with one out.
The next batter, shortstop Johnny Whittleman, singled Negron in to put
the Mustangs on top 1-0. That lead would
hold until the bottom of the 2nd inning when Katy got a base hit, a
stolen base, and another single together to knot the score 1-1. The contest would stay tied until the bottom
of the 5th inning when Katy scored three runs on a hit batter, a
walk, and two singles.
Kingwood catcher, Andrew
Brooks, ended the inning by throwing out the Katy centerfielder trying to
steal. The game ended with Katy on top
4-1 as Kingwood could not capitalize on base runners in the 5th and
6th innings.
Senior Zach Tumlinson got the
start for the Mustangs and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four
runs. Senior Jimmy Jordan came on in
relief and pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no earned runs on one hit.
Offensively, Kingwood was
lead by Negron 1-3 double – 1 run scored and Whittleman
1-2, 1 RBI and 1 walk.
