Kingwood Begins Quarterfinal Play

Kingwood, designated as the
home team, facing Aaron Brown, a
Junior first baseman, Austin
Wood, with one out doubled into the right field corner; Junior centerfielder,
Kyle Denny, walked; and Senior leadoff hitter infielder, Greg Gossett, walked
to load the bases. Senior designated
hitter, Steffen Savarino, walked with the bases loaded forcing home Wood with
the Mustangs first run. Junior
shortstop, Johnny Whittleman, then singled sharply to right field scoring Denny
and Gossett. A ground out by Sophomore
rightfielder, Doug Simmons, plated Savarino and a base hit by Senior catcher,
Andrew Brooks, scored Whittleman to make the
Kingwood would score again in
the bottom of the 4th as Gossett singled to lead off the inning,
moved to second on an error, and scored on a base hit by Brooks making the
The Mustangs needed every one
of these runs as Clear Creek clawed back in the top of the 5th with
four runs on five hits making the
Kingwood held on for the 6-5
win with Senior righthander, Daniel Edwards, recording the win going 6 2/3
innings, giving up seven hits, four earned runs and striking out six. Junior lefthander, Blake Hancock, came on to
retire the final batter and receive the save.
Rightfielder Simmons made an
outstanding diving catch to record the first out of the 6th inning
in support of Edwards.
