Kingwood Finishes District Play 14-1

Finishes 22-5A District Champion Season with

Victory at Baytown Lee

 

Kingwood defeated the Baytown Lee Ganders Friday in 5 innings under the 10 run mercy rule 12-2.  The Mustangs 14-1 District 22-5A record is the best in recent history with 7 of the 14 victories coming under the 10 run mercy rule.

 

Noteworthy items:

 

·        Kingwood recorded the school record breaking double play in this contest on a 4-6-3 play in the 3rd inning with Junior second baseman, Josh Fountain, on the pick up and toss, Junior shortstop, Johnny Whittleman, on the turn, and Junior first baseman, Austin Wood, on the receiving end.

 

·        Senior righthander, Daniel Edwards, picked up his 6th district victory with no defeats going 3 innings, giving up 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and no earned runs.

 

·        Senior righthander, Jimmy Jordan, pitched the 4th inning giving up one hit.  He had two strikeouts and gave up no earned runs.

 

·        Sophomore righthander, Ryan Torres, closed out the 5th inning giving up one hit, striking out two Ganders, and giving up no earned runs.

 

Offensively Kingwood was lead by:

 

Negron                  2-2 – double, 1 run, 3 RBI’s, 1 stolen base

Whittleman            2-2 – double, on base 4-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI

Gossett                  2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI’s, 1 stolen base

Edwards                2-3, 2 runs (Williams and Delay running for   the pitcher), 1 RBI

Simmons               2-2, 1 run, 1 RBI

Wood                   1-1, 1 run, on base 2-2

Seitz                     1 RBI, on base 1-3

McCormick           1-1, double, 1 run

Fountain                1-3, 1 run, on base 2-4
