Friday night, the Mustang JV completed an undefeated district season with
a 5-1 win over Baytown Lee. For
the season, the JV Mustangs went 18-4 and a perfect 15-0 in district.
On Friday, the Mustangs jumped ahead with a run in the bottom of the first. Josh Fountain led off and ended up on second on an error by the Baytown right fielder. He then stole 3rd and scored on a John Seitz single. The Mustangs pushed across another run in the 3rd. Blake Steil singled. Austin Wood singled. Seitz singled but Steil was thrown out at home trying to score. Matt Grundy, running for Wood, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Thomas McCormick. Baytown made it 2-1 when they scored their only run in the top of the 5th. The first 2 batters in the inning singled putting runners at the corners. A balk call then brought home their only run of the game. Kingwood countered in the bottom of the 5th with 3 to go up 5-1. Fountain led off with a single. Wood then singled. With 2 outs, Brian Shelton singled bringing home both runners. Shelton moved to second on the throw to the plate and then to 3rd on an error. He then scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the evening. Austin Wood was on the mound for the Mustangs. He allowed the 1 run on 3 hits, walked 1 and had 14 strikeouts on the evening.
