Kingwood and Humble met for the final time this year
Thursday evening and the Mustangs prevailed once again by the score of 5-1.
Scoreless through 3 ½ innings, the Mustangs put a 4 spot up in the
bottom of the 4th. Blake
Steil led off the inning with a walk. Pinch
runner Bruce Williams then stole second. Austin
Wood followed with a walk. A single
by John Seitz drove in Williams. Wood
was forced out at 3rd on a ground ball with Austin Pendleton reaching
first. Thomas McCormick drove in
Seitz with a single moving Pendleton to third.
Pendleton scored on a throwing error by the Humble catcher on a steal of
2nd by pinch runner Brennan Oliver.
Oliver then scored on a base hit by Matt Grundy.
Humble countered with their only run of the evening
on a double and a couple of passed balls in the top of the 5th.
Kingwood scored their final run of the evening in the bottom of the
inning when Josh Fountain led off with a double.
He moved to 3rd on a sacrifice fly and scored on a wild pitch.
Blake Steil went the distance on the mound for the
Mustangs. He allowed 3 hits, walked
3 and struck out 9.
Matt
Grundy(1-3) John Seitz(1-3) Josh Fountain(1-3) and Thomas McCormick(1-2) had the
Mustang hits on the evening.
The
win pushed the JV District record to a perfect 13-0 and their overall record to
16-4. Their final home game of the
year is on Friday, April 25 against Baytown Lee with a 6:45 start time.
