The Kingwood and Humble junior varsity squared of for the second time this year on Tuesday evening and the results were the same, another great game. Kingwood started Austin Wood on the mound and Humble countered with Matt DuPont. Neither pitcher disappointed but the Mustangs managed to scrape together 2 runs for the 2-0 win. After 4 scoreless innings, Kingwood scored in the top
of the 5th to take a 1-0 lead.
Austin Pendledon led off the inning reaching first on an error on
an extremely close call at first. Pendleton
was moved over to second on a Doug Simmons sacrifice bunt.
With two outs in the inning, Kyle Denney singled driving n
Pendleton with what proved to be the only run the Mustangs would need.
The Mustangs did add an insurance run in the top of the 7th.
With one out, Doug Simmons singled.
He moved to second on a passed ball.
Then with two out, Kyle Denney came through again with a hit that
drove in Simmons. Austin Wood made the runs stand up as he kept the
Humble hitters at bay all evening. Wood
allowed only 2 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4. The Mustangs also played flawless defense.
Playing second base, Josh Fountain had a hand in 8 put outs on the
evening as the Mustangs played error free ball.
The Mustangs managed only 6 hits on the evening.
Kyle Denney(2-3, 2 RBI) Austin Wood(2-3) Blake Steil(1-3) and Doug
Simmons(1-2) had the Kingwood hits.
