The Mustangs scored in every inning but one Friday night
in defeating Beaumont Westbrook 12-6.
Josh Fountain led off the
game of with a walk and scored on an Austin Wood double to give the
Mustangs a 1-0 lead after a half inning of play.
Westbrook battled back to score in their half of the inning to tie
the game at 1 apiece. In the
top of the second with one out, Matt Grundy got the first of his 4 hits on
the night with a single. Jake
Kolesar then singled and Kyle Denney laid down a sacrifice bunt-putting
runners on 2nd and 3rd.
Fountain was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Blake Steil then ripped a double down in the left field corner
clearing the bases giving Kingwood a 4-1 lead.
However, Westbrook again rallied back with 2 in there half of the
second leaving Kingwood with a 4-3 lead after two.
In the 3rd, Kingwood scored 2 more
runs. John Seitz
singled leading off and with
2 outs, Grudy singled. Kolesar
then singled driving in Seitz and Denney singled to bring home Grundy.
After a scoreless 4th, the Mustangs stretched their lead
out. Thomas McCormick got
this stared with a lead off triple and scored on a Grundy double. Kolesar reached on an error.
After the first out of the inning, Fountain drove home both runners
with a single. Steil then
walked and Wood drove home Fountain with a single.
Westfield just wouldn’t go away though as they scored 3 in there
half of the 5th leaving the Mustangs with a 10-6 lead.
Kingwood then scored a couple of insurance runs in the 6th
when Doug Simmons walked. McCormick then singled and was followed by a Grundy single
that scored Simmons. A ground
ball from Kolesar brought home McCormick with the Mustangs final runs.
Blake Steil, who went the distance on the mound then shut down
Westbrook in there half of the 6th.
He gave up a leadoff single but then struck out the side the seal
the win. Steil struck out 10
on the evening while allowing 4 walks and he scattered 5 hits.
