JV Stangs Push District Record to 10-3

 This past week the Junior Varsity Mustang Baseball Team won two games by shutting out both opponents and pushed their District record to 10-3. The Mustangs first game was against Sam Rayburn in a rubber match as these two teams split wins in the two earlier match-ups this season.  The second game of the week versus Pasadena was a much different and much easier game for the Mustangs, scoring 13 runs in a five inning game.

 

The first game proved to be an exciting game down to the final play.  Kingwood’s starter, Jonathan Beaty, pitched a complete seven inning-shut out and allowed only two hits. The only Sam Rayburn ball hit to the outfield was a fly ball to the centerfielder.  After two scoreless innings both teams sent seven batters to the plate. In the top of the third inning, after two walks and a sacrifice bunt Kingwood had runners in scoring position with two outs when John Seitz got a clutch 2 RBI drive to right field to make the score 2-0.  In the fourth inning Sam Rayburn got two men on after Kingwood’s hurler walked two of his only four walks all night.  Beaty was successful however at getting the next three batters to ground out, strike out and ground out. In the top of the sixth inning, a base on an error and a smash back to the pitcher by Casey Stoub for an infield hit brought Klye Edge to the plate with two outs.  Klye drove one into centerfield for Kingwood’s second, clutch, two out, 2 RBI hit of the night.  Sam Rayburn threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning with one hit, and a walk.  Beaty continued strong and got Sam Rayburn to ground out three more times to end the game with a 4-0 Kingwood victory.

 

Mike Streich started on the mound for Kingwood in a home game against Pasadena last Friday night. Streich pitched four innings, allowed only two hits and no runs. In the top of the first inning, Pasadena went three up-three down with an infield fly and a 4-6-3 double play.  Kingwood threatened early loading the bases with a base on an error and two well executed bunts by Steffen Savarino and Casey Stoub. The Mustangs came up empty however when the next two batters stuck out and flew out to left field. Again in the second the Pasadena Eagles sent only three batters to the plate.  Kingwood scored the first runs on the game in the bottom of the second inning. After two base hits by Robert Hays and Matt Grundy, Tyler Wood hit a 2 RBI triple to far right field, putting the Mustangs ahead 2-0.  In the top of the third, the Eagles stranded two base runners on two singles as the Mustangs retired the side after five batters. The third inning proved to be Kingwood’s big offensive inning, scoring seven runs on four hits including singles by Casey Stoub, Ryan Williams, and Andrew Brooks, plus a 3-run home run by Kyle Edge.  In the top of the fourth inning Kingwood managed their third defensive three up-three down inning. Kingwood put four more runs on the board in the fourth inning on four hits by Kyle Edge, Thomas McCormick, Chase Falk, and Michael Awe. Leading by more than 10 runs in the fifth inning, relief pitcher Jimmy Jordan went to the mound for the Mustangs.  Jordan faced four batters and struck out three to end the game with a 13-0 shut out for Kingwood.
