The Sophomore Mustangs traveled to Pasadena on spring break to take on the Sam Rayburn Texans. Blake Steil started on the mound and finished what he started. He allowed a first inning run and then shut down the Texans the rest of the way helping lead the Mustangs to a 7 - 1 victory. Steil pitched 7 strong innings allowing 6 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6. The offense got going in the top of the second when Austin Wood was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. David Marvin then singled. Wood was forced at 3rd on a Jake Kolesar ground ball. Brian Shelton then doubled to drive in Marvin leaving Kolesar at 3rd and Shelton at 2nd. Kolesar scored on a wild pitch and then Kenneth Negron singled to drive home Shelton. In the 3rd, Steil led off by getting hit by a pitch. After 2 outs, Marvin reached on an error and then Kolesar doubled driving in Steil. In the 4th, Negron led off with a single. After a ground ball out moved Negron over, McCormick singled driving in the run. In the 6th Kingwood scored their final 2 runs. Kolesar led off with a single. After a couple of outs moved Kolesar over, he scored on a single by Josh Fountain. Fountain then came around to score on a single by McCormick. Negron, Fountain, McCormick and Kolesar each had 2 hits. Marvin and Shelton one apiece. Kolesar scored twice and Negron, Fountain, Steil, Marvin and Shelton once apiece.
