Kingwood 4 LaPorte 0
In the opening game of the Baytown Tournament,
Kingwood held off LaPorte 4-0 in a rain shortened 3 1/2 inning game.
Blake Steil pitched for the Mustangs allowing no hits to LaPorte. He
walked 2 and had 2 strikeouts. Kenneth Negron had 3 hits and Kyle Denney
2 to lead the offense. Austin Wood and Thomas McCormick each had a hit
apiece. McCormick, Steil, Denney and Brian Jeanes each scored once for
the Mustangs.
Kingwood 12 Aldine 2
Kingwood opened the Aldine Tournament with a 12 -
2 win over host Aldine. It stayed close through 4 innings before the
Mustangs erupted for 8 in the top of the 5th. Blake Hancock started on
the mound for the Mustangs and allowed only 1 hit in the game. He struck
out 11 and walked 3. Leading the offense for Kingwood were Charlie
Shepard, Dustin Delay and Levi Meyer with 2 hits apiece. Thomas
McCormick, Bruce Williams, Brian Smith, Jimmy McCrary and Michael Cvejanovich
had one hit apiece. Sheppard, Delay and Meyer each scored twice with
McCormick, Williams, Smith, McCrary, Austin Pendleton and Cvejanovich scoring
once apiece.
Kingwood 14 Pasadena 2
In the opening game of the Kingwood/Humble
sophomore tournament, the host Mustangs opened with a bang. A 13 run
first inning powered the Mustangs to a 14-2 victory. Blake Hancock
started on the mound and threw 3 no hit innings while striking out 7.
Dustin Delay pitched the final 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while
striking out 5. Leading the hit parade was Austin Pendleton with 3
singles. Delay, Brian Smith and Levi Meyer each had 2 hits and Bruce
Williams, Thomas McCormick and Hancock one apiece. Delay, McCormick,
Pendleton, Williams, Jake Kolesar and Meyer each scored twice. Smith and
Hancock scored once apiece.
Kingwood 14 Sam Rayburn 5
Kingwood continued their run scoring ways in game
2 of the tournament to stop Sam Rayburn 14-5. The Mustangs fell behind
1-0 after an inning and a half but scored 4 in the second and 6 more in the
3rd to pull away from the Texans. Blake Steil pitched 5 no hit innings
before allowing a double in the 6th for the only hit he allowed. Steil
ended up pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing only one hit, strikeout out 6,
walking 4 and hitting a batter. Kyle Denney relieved Steil in the 6th
and then Blake Hancock came on in the 7th to get a game ending strikeout with
the bases loaded. Kenneth Negron got the offense going with 3 hits.
Thomas McCormick and Kyle Denney had 2 with Josh Fountain and Brian Smith one
apiece. Smith scored 3 times for the Mustangs. Negron, Denney,
Bruce Williams, Austin Wood and Steil each scored twice with McCormick scoring
the other Kingwood run.
Kingwood 9 Humble 5
In the tournament finals, Kingwood met district
rival Humble. Humble had advanced to the finals with wins over South
Houston and Bellaire. Humble opened the scoring in the bottom of the
first with one run. It stayed that way through 2 full innings before the
Mustangs scored 4 in the top of the 3rd. Levi Meyer led off the 3rd with
a walk. Kenneth Negron then singled and Josh Fountain reached on an
error. After a ground ball out, Austin Wood then singled and moved
around the bases on an error, ground ball out, and then scored on a wild
pitch. After Humble scored on in the bottom of the 3rd, Kingwood scored
3 more in the top of the 4th. Kyle Denney and Charlie Sheppard led off
the inning reaching base on two errors. After a fly ball out, Negron and
Fountain both singled with Negron scoring the 3rd run of the inning.
Humble again countered with another run in the bottom of the 4th.
Kingwood then scored 2 more in the top of the sixth. With one out,
Negron and Fountain singled. Negron scored on the Fountain hit and the
Fountain came around on an Wood single. Humble mounted a rally in the
bottom of the 7th and pushed across two runs making the final 9 - 5.
Negron led the Kingwood attack with 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Fountain
also had 3 hits and scored twice. Wood had 2 hits and scored once.
Denney, Sheppard and Meyer each scored once. Austin Wood started on the
mound for the Mustangs and went the distance. He pitched 7 innings,
allowed 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7.
